World cup is the soccer grand event which only happens once every four years. The whole world is watching the event, and soccer fans all over the world will definitely not want to miss the matches.
In china, some extreme soccer fans would resolve to desperate method to watch the matches of world cup. One example is quitting their jobs and directly affecting their sources of income and they have to look for a new job after the world cups. This does not affect the office productivity as much as the jobs vacancy would be filled up quickly. While some lied to their employers about their elderly being sick. Leading to decrease in office productivity and rising of negative effects such as lying and gambling issue to surfaces.
In England, some office based company allow its worker to take the 2 hour off to watch the match as quoted from the article “Two hours out of a whole year isn't going to prove critical for most office-based organisations”. For the manufacturing company it would be a problem as the production line cannot be stopped for a few hours as it would affect the productivity level of the day.
Singapore is situated in a different time zone from the South Africa World Cup; the matches are usually at 2.30am in the morning. Some employer finds World Cup a nuisance as they lower office productivity while trying to recover from the financial crisis, when they need human resource more than ever. While other employers find it a good time to foster better morale and teamwork through the celebrations in some cases improving office productivity by allowing flexible deadlines for projects or other important documents.
In conclusion,office productivity is affected by the individual action to the situation and what is affected by their actions.
