Why we may never be able to say goodbye to oil (Tuesday, June 15, 2010 / 7:35 AM)
I agree to this article mentioning that human cannot live without oil.
Oil gives us energy. A statistics shows that the world consume 84,077 thousand barrels of oil in 2009. The figure is increasing throughout the years which proves human is relying heavily on oil supply. International Energy Agency forecasts that the world consumption on oil will continue to increase to 1.7 million per day in year 2010.
With increasing growth in population and growth in developing countries, the demand for oil increases. High demand for vehicles, technology changes, and no ready alternatives for oil are causes for the high demand. Wind energy is supposed to be the less polluted energy source, however as reported in the news article, the wind turbines’ plastics are made up of oil-based products.
Not everywhere in the world is suitable to use solar energy, or other sources of energy. Thus oil demand starts to increase which will in turn causes global warming and more pollution to the earth. Though we cannot live with oil, but we can help to reduce the amount of oil being consumed. What will happen when there is a day where oil is being used up, where can we source for other alternatives that can fully replace oil?
I strongly believe that every one living in this planet should do their part by conserving. A simple thing like switching off lights after use or reduce the air conditions usage will help in a way. Since we cannot live without it, save it for the future.
